Wireless range

Review Date: November 10, 2007

I'm just writing this review to counter some of the comments on other reviews about range. Some people say it only works from one foot away, needs a fixed line of sight, etc.

My mouse lives on top of the desk. The PC and wireless dongle live in a cupboard underneath with the door closed three feet away. Works perfectly, no line of sight there at all, even in the wrong direction!

Signal strength listed by the MS Mouse application is shown as "good" and the mouse works perfectly under Windows Vista Home Premium.
Excellent product although still early days

I bought this mouse recently to replace an older packard bell wireless one.
This is worlds apart from the old one.
It seems to always be ON. You don't need to click it to bring the pc out of sleep, you simply move it.
When i realised, after having received it, that it is not rechargeable, i was not too happy.
However, having had it for 2 months and constant use, the battery levels have hardly moved.
The truth is that i now prefer it as is and without a bulky power transformer.
One other thing, a couple of times, on start up, i got a warning pop-up saying that the range is not good.
Not sure what that was about because the mouse was still operational and i simply clicked on ok.
An excellent product overall, highly recommended!
Great mouse! Don't be put off

Ok this is my first online review with amazon so bear with me... The reason I decided to write in is because the other reviews I read prior to buying this mouse were all far too negative and I can't get it out of my system just how fantastic this mouse is. This is a DESKTOP mouse though, for laptops it'd be far too faffy.. I have used a million computers over years and years (I am a computer programmer) and I have never used a mouse anywhere near this good. The negative things people said about it are all contextless.. so first i'd like to rebut the negatives.. THIS IS A DESKTOP MOUSE the USB "dongle" is a big lump (yes, about the size of the mouse itself) but a) it's the _exact_ same dongle that ALL the Microsoft Wireless Mice use and b) it's beefy on purpose with solid rubber feet to grip, so that it can sit on your desk and be "at eye level" with the mouse itself and not get dragged onto the floor when you accidentlly boot the cables under your desk.. the cable to the PC is long and suits this purpose. The "low wireless range" someone mentioned is hardly fair.. the range is about 2 feet and kind of needs (some degree) of line of sight to work - but this is not a mistake it's a design feature to SAVE THE BATTERIES (that's why it boast incredible battery lifetime!)

The good things about this mouse are many and are all to do with how it "feels" to use.. it skips about the screen with hardly a flick of the wrist yet somehow always manages to end up to the milimeter where you'd like it to, it's light under hand and ambidexterous with the buttons yet because your wrist can stay put as you nudge it it puts a lot less strain on your tendons .. It feels so unlike any other mouse I have ever used ... in a good way ... all the modifications are ergonomic ones, to better suit the way humans actually work. (I used a Infra red wireless Microsoft Intellimouse before this - and I thought that that was a great piece of kit til it went gag ga and I bought this one)

So my final words are this.. IF you need DESKTOP mouse and you are on the PC all day every day buy this and you'll never want anything else.. My only (small) gripe was that I thought I was buying from Amazon yet it ended up being shipped by some 3rd Party vendor reseller (I have used these 3rd Party vendors before and been sent pirate software so I don't like them) so I paid the "slightly higher" price to have it sent from Amazon themselves only to get it sent by a third party so-and-so firm.. I probably should have read the small print as I was checking it out but bear it in mind if you (like me) like to buy from the main site and get it in the nice Amazon cardboard pack.
Large mouse helps reduce aches in my hand

I have one of these at work as I found that as a larger than average mouse, it didn't make my hand ache as much as a standard one. I have now bought one for our laptop at home which is great as we can prop the laptop up on the table and use this on a book or board on the sofa to quickly navigate around.
