If you present a lot get one of these

This is a great mouse.

It is based on the small laptop form factor that works well and has the back and forward buttons that use all the time (just change the default setting for the browser experience)

I present a fair bit and apposed to getting out another usb device to move slide forward during presentations this mouse just works really well.

The range when presenting is great I can walk a long way away from the laptop and still successfully advance slides.

The laser is a bit fiddly but works when necassary. The ability to switch between presentation and mouse use if great with the button on top of the mouse - you dont accidentally press it when in use.

Battery life is actually pretty good.

You absolutley need to install the drivers to get the functionality. (you can downloand them from the microsoft.com/hardware site though if you have lost the CD :-) as we all do

accuracy is good with the new laser technology

overall really impressed - my whole team wants one now!

An excellent mouse, small and compact. If your notebook (desktop) already supports bluetooth, you don't need to use the dongle with the mouse. There is a small button underneath the mouse - press it in, and then your notebook will deteck the mouse.

The documentation is sparse to put it mildly! There is practically no help is what it does - have a look at some of the reviews on the internet and you'll learn what button does what. Also, it runs great on Vista but you MUST download the latest drivers from Microsoft, rather than install the supplied ones.

The small case is a cracker! If you don't need the dongle, take it out, leave it at home and the space left is a perfect fit for two replacement AAA batteries should you run out. :-)

The default sensitivity is extreme - the mouse speeds around the screen, and even a slight movement of the scroll button makes pages whizz by. Fortunately the sensitivity can be controlled in the latest software in the Control Panel. The scroll button also has lateral movement - move to the left and it will go back a screen in IE, go right and the screen will scroll sideways.

The presentation ability is impressive - including a lasar pointer.

All in all, if you need this functionality, this is a great product and highly recommended.
Fantastic laptop mouse

You have to realise that before you buy this mouse that this is for a laptop. It's designed not to be used 100% of the time, but when you take it to meetings and when you need to make presentations.

For those two tasks there is no better mouse.

A previous post talked about problems with the mouse not being accurate, but if you install the software that comes with the mouse you are able to adjust this information as it helps with battery life. Not everyone needs a perfect, accurate, fast feedback mouse all the time, so you can trade up between that and battery life. Personally I have mine on highest accuracy and it works perfect.

The mouse does however come with its own USB Bluetooth adaptor which is fantastic for those that don't already have such a device and also included is a great travel box that is just slightly larger than the mouse itself. The mouse fits perfectly into the case.

The mouse has a button that switches it from mouse mode to presentation mode that stops the normal mouse buttons from working. This is great as you need to flip the mouse upside down to access the presentation options.

Included in the presentation options you have a Play/Pause button, a next page & previous page button, volume up & volume down buttons and of course the laser button.

These buttons are fantastic. There have been times where I sit on my couch with my laptop on my table with headphones plugged in reading a book and I use the mouse to control windows media player. Then of course are the presentation options which mean you can sit back from your laptop and feel more in control. These buttons also work at 10meter distance, while the mouse might start loosing accuracy at half a meter (it's for a laptop, you don't to use it further away), the buttons do work at a greater distance. So you can have your laptop on a table and stand up and run your presentation.

All in all, this is one of the best mice I have ever used. Ideal for a laptops and if you ever run a presentation off one, then this mouse is a must.

I bought my first Microsoft mouse in about 1994, and it's still in daily use, which is why I went for a Microsoft mouse rather than one of the other common makes, despite it costing more.

So far I've not been disappointed. Holding it feels comfortable and the 2 main buttons and the wheel are comfortably placed. On installation on Windows 7 it immediately found the driver without having to load the included driver CD. I've tested the presentation buttons to control a PowerPoint presentation and they work fine, although I haven't used them to run a live presentation yet.

I do have 1 criticism plus 2 minor concerns.

The criticism is the battery life. The supplied batteries lasted just over a week, probably about 50 hours, although I did forget to turn it off overnight a couple of times. I now use rechargeable batteries, carry 2 spare rechageable and 2 spare alkaline batteries, and make a point of turning it off when not in use. A week later and I haven't had to change them since.

The first concern is that I find I occasionally accidentally push the right auxiliary button (the mouse has 2 extra buttons, one on each side). The action is customisable, so if I find I keep doing it I can disable it.

The second concern is that it comes with a Bluetooth USB dongle, which I am really nervous about damaging, same as any USB attachment really. Unlike a USB memory stick, it's not something you can take out when you've finished with it, as all the time you want to use the mouse it has to be attached. For my next laptop I'll be looking for one with Bluetooth built in.

Overall though, very happy with my purchase.
Simply perfect

What is it?
A portable mouse designed for regular use which connects via bluetooth and is powered by two AAA batteries. It has a vertical/horizontal mousewheel and two extra buttons, plus a fifth placed behind the mousewheel which converts it into a remote control. Press this and turn it over and you will find forwards and back buttons, volume updown, pause/play and laser pointer. The buttons work with powerpoint and most media players.

Advantages:
VERY accurate (even accurate on rough surfaces - including carpets!)
Very ergonomic - small, yet big enough to use as your main mouse
Bluetooth (plus free dongle) has a great range and can save a precious USB port.
Off button (unlike my old bluetooth mouse) will save the battery, and means it doesn't go into standby (and take a while to wake up, as my old one did)

Disadvantages:
Price, though personally I think it's worth the money
Scroll wheel button is sometimes a bit hard to depress
On vista, I can't get any of the extra buttons to open up programs, which I find a bit irritating.

Conclusion:
A Very good mouse. Worth the money if you have it, and extremely useful. After a while you'll start refusing to use other mice.
